My Left Hand is a Ginger Step-Child

on

Summer is Million-Dollar Brynne Season. I think it’s because I’m cold-blooded and I need the sunshine to learn what it’s like to be a fully functioning human being after the pits of winter.

I start lots of new things in the summer. It’s really my resolution season.

I’m cutting caffeine (gulp), sugar, and alcohol out my diet for one month.

I’m doing a #100happydays challenge inspired by a friend.

I’m diving deeper into my yoga practice (I’m looking at you, Hanumanasana)

And I’m exploring mindfulness with this book:

downloadBasically, Imma train my wild elephant.

Each week the book presents a task that cannot be accomplished without mindfulness. This means I spent all of last week trying to exist with my left hand.

The conclusion? My left hand is a ginger step-child. I really, really, really just want it to be like my star-child right hand. But my left can’t do anything right. I would totally accidentally-on purpose forget my left hand at the mall if it wasn’t attached.

But those are my own problems. The mindfulness aspect was incredible. It is interesting to be mid-dishwash, mid-hairbrush, mid-texting and hear my brain click in to tell me to switch hands.

Then my thinking brain would say “Woah. I knew that I was going to use my left hand…what happened?”  The literature on mindfulness loves to say that your brain “goes on vacation” however, that’s too romantic for my brain. My brain is a lazy heifer in the middle of the road that needs a iron hot prod to get it to ponder the idea moving in the direction I want. “Move along Bessi,” my thinking brain says while my left hand just looks at me stupidly.

Forgive me, it’s been a long week with my hands.

Obviously, I’m hooked. I love this shit. And I want you to try it with me because #everythingisbetterwithfraaanndddssss

P.S. The picture of the book is a secret link to buy it and play with me!

An elephant in crow pose, I love it!!!

If I start that #100happydays challenge I kind of feel like I’ll be cheating since I’ve already got a really awesome week lined up (leaving for “knitting camp” at Squam Lake on Wednesday!!) But I guess the only real cheating is taking a pic when you’re only pretending to be happy, so in that case I’m good to go. 🙂
